Programmes held in Ctg marking Nat’l Mourning Day

The National Mourning Day and 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed on Thursday in Chattogarm in a befitting manner. Various programmes were arranged in the city and district marking the day.

A mourning procession was brought out from in front of the Nandankanan DC Hill in morning. Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin led the procession. 

Awami League organised day-long programme marking the day. The programmes include a meeting at Darul Fazal Market office in the morning and mourning rally at noon from MA Aziz Stadium.

Chattogarm Press Club and Journalist Union also observed the day by holding various programmes. The journalist leaders paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreath at his mural in the Press Club premises. A discussion and doa mahfil was also held at the club. Club president Ali Abbas, general secretary Chowdhury Farid and union president Moinuddin Dulal and general secretary Hasan Ferdous attended the programme.

Convener of Chattogram Citizens Initiative and vice-president of the BFUJ-Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union Riaz Haider Chowdhury urged the people of Bangladesh to join the spirit of the War of Liberation and the people of Bangladesh.

The CUET family also paid tribute to Bangabandhu. Its Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Rafiqul Alam and others placed wreath at Bangabandhu’s mural. Deans, Teachers Association, Officers Association, Employees Association and Bangabandhu Parishad joined the programme.

Marking the day, various programmes were arranged at the University of Chattogarm Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr Gautam Buddha Das, and member of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof. Dr. Sajjad Hossain attended the programmes.

VC of Chittagong University Professor Shirin Akhter led a rally on the campus. The National Mourning Day programme began on the campus in the morning. CU Vice-Chancellor along with others began mourning procession from the Central Shaheed Minar, and it ended at Bangabandhu Square. The CU Vice-Chancellor paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu. 

Deans, Provost, Presidents and Directors, Officers Association, Employees Association, Employees Union and leaders of various socio-cultural and political organizations were present at the time.

In the morning of National Mourning Day, the national flag was hoisted at half and the black flag was raised in the university buildings.

Apart from this, various organizations  arranged Qurankhani, Daa Mahfil, discussion meeting, painting competition and other programmes on the campus.
