Many doctors and medical professionals fearing the infection of the coronavirus have reported in the news media that they are reluctant to perform their humanitarian duties. But now almost all the hospitals in the country have been assured of their safety. Everything is provided including PPE. Yet many of them are reluctant to work or even provide treatment to any common patient. Many are not even practicing at their chambers regularly. It is expected that physicians will be duty-aware and public-friendly. But the situation is quite opposite.

Multiple situations of irresponsibility have emerged in the news media about various hospitals across the country where people have died due to not getting adequate treatemtn. Many diseases have not been properly diagnosed or diagnosis cannot be possible due to lack of technicians at the health-centers. We know that during a recent video conference with the district administrators, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested the doctors of all public-private hospitals not to return any patient.

The doctors including those responsible

for the local administration must not

forget their responsibilities

The Health Minister also requested the doctors not to close their private chambers and see the patient. Every day, people are suffering from some kind of disease and this is not uncommon. Not all patients have coronavirus - if the physicians think that it is the case, then it is very disconcerting. They cannot in any way disregard the basic human rights of their profession. In the present case, it is not acceptable for ordinary patients to be deprived of treatment in public-private hospitals.

This is not only pure disregard to the basic rights of the people, but also it is disregarding of government directives and the constitution. Such actions also fall under the category of crime. The doctors including those responsible for the local administration must not forget their responsibilities. We hope that they will be devoted to the proper treatment of those suffering from other diseases. In addition to the government's strong initiative to deal with coronavirus sufferers, attention should be paid to the general patients so as not to disrupt treatment. At the same time, social solidarity and empathy should also be increased. We must maintain as physical distance as much as possible.
