The government has appointed Professor of Surgery at Dhaka Medical College Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam as the new director general for health services following the resignation of Prof Abul Kalam Azad over Covid-19 storms.
The health services division of the health ministry gave the appointment on Thursday after the public administration ministry cancelled the contract with Prof Azad who tendered his resignation on Tuesday.
Two separate circulars have been issued.
This followed the detection of false certificate issuance by the Regent Hospital and JKG Healthcare, engaged for the Covid-19 services by the government. The owners of the two private organisations have been arrested.
The government also made director for hospitals and clinics Dr Aminul Islam OSD on Thursday.
Dr Farid Hossain Miah, programme manager of National Tuberculosis Control Programme, has become the new director for the department that oversees all hospitals and clinics in Bangladesh.
