Indian external affairs secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla has mourned the death of preeminent National Professor Anisuzzaman in Bangladesh and said he was the leading intellectual of the region.
Prof Anisuzzaman was the first Bangladesh national to receive Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award of India.
In a tweet, Shringla said he learnt with ‘sorrow’ passing away of Prof Anisuzzaman.
He was “one of our region’s leading intellectuals”.
A freedom fighter and true secularist, he gave meaning to having an educated mind,” he said.
The valiant freedom fighter and eminent educator professor Anisuzzaman passed away Thursday from various health complications at the age of 83. He was also tested coronavirus positive after death.
He was laid to rest at Azimpur Graveyard on Friday after giving Guard of Honor from Dhaka district administration.
