Production re-starts at Jamuna Fertilizer factory

Jamuna Fertilizer Factory, the country's largest urea producer located at Sarishabari Upazila of Jamalpur has resumed operations.

After being closed for 72 days, the production of fertilizer in this factory started from Friday night.

According to JFCL sources, the authorities had stopped the production of Yamuna Fertilizer Factory on September 5 this year due to abnormally low gas pressure.

Supplying gas to this new factory has forced the closure of old factories, calling into question the government's aim of reducing import dependence.

However, gas supply started again on Friday.  As a result, the production of fertilizer has started.

Shahidullah Khan, managing director of JFCL told Bangladesh Post that the production was forced to halves due to the low gas flow. Titas Gas Distribution Company Limited later resumed the gas connectivity on November 1.
