The upazila administration has formed an investigation committee over the death of teenager Nusrat Jahan Anika and the disappearance of three siblings including her two sisters in a speedboat sinking at Sandwip Channel in Chattogram. Sandwip Assistant Commissioner (Land) said Moin Uddin leads the five-member inquiry committee and the committee has been asked to give their report within seven workings day.
The three children missing in the speedboat sinking have yet to be found. Mourning is going on in their family, family sources said. Confirming the matter on Thursday Sandwip Upazila Nirbahi Officer Samrat Khisha said that "‘Why did the boat started its sail even in hostile weather, was there any negligence here?”.
The investigation committee put importance on the point, he added.
Kumira naval police in-charge police inspector Ekram Ullah said that more than 24 hours have passed since the disappearance siblings but the three missing children have not been found yet. The local administration including naval police and coast guard are still working to rescue them. A 12-year-old girl has died and three others siblings have gone missing after a speedboat carrying around 15 people sank during the first Nor’wester near the Guptachhara terminal in Sandwip Upazila after it left Kumira terminal at 10 am on Wednesday.
The speedboat had 21 passengers. Although 17 of them managed to swim to shore, the body of Nusrat Jahan Anika was recovered. However, Anika's twin sisters, eight-year-old Adiba and Alifa, have not been found yet. Another child named Monir Hossain Soikat,10 was also not found.
