Sher-E-Bangla Fazlul Haque Hall authorities of RU formed a four-member committee on Saturday to investigate the allegation of torturing a student by BCL leaders and activists at the hall on Friday.

The probe body is headed by house tutor Dr. Shah Shahan Shahriar of the Population Science and Human Resource Development department, He has been asked to submit the report in seven working days, informed  Sher-E-Bangla Fazlul Haque Hall provost Dr. Habibur Rahman.

Earlier, Safayet Hossain, a fourth-year student of the social work department and also a resident of room no 221 of Sher-e Bangla Fazlul Haque Hall, lodged two separate complaints with the hall provost and the student advisor on Friday afternoon, alleging that a group of BCL leaders and activists beat him for not joining their party’s political programme.

Safayet was first taken to RU medical centre and was later admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his right hand was fractured in the beating. He said a group of BCL men led by activist Al-Amin came to his room when he was cooking at 11 am on Friday.

He said that they asked him to leave the cooking and go with them to join their party programme marking the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

‘As I told them that it would take two more minutes to finish the cooking, BCL activist Al-Amin assaulted me physically', he added.

Safayet said that he at a stage picked up his 'boti' (kitchen knife) to save him from their attack while students from nearby rooms came and resolved the matter.

However, after completing their prty programme, Al-Amin along with several others including Motihar Hall unit BCL joint general secretary Nazmul Hasan went to Safayet’s room again and beat him up over.

Safayet said that he felt unsafe staying in the room and uncomfortable to go out alone due to the incident.

‘I want a fair investigation and punishment of those who beat me up’, he added

BCL activist Al-Amin, meanwhile, denied the allegation of beating and claimed that Safayet attacked him twice with a boti but he was luckily not hit.

Contacted, RU BCL general secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu informed that there was an altercation and scuffle between the student and his followers over joining the party’s programme.
