Probe body formed over theft of paddy seed

 After publishing news items in print and electronic media, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) has formed a three-member probe body to investigate the theft of 129.22 tonnes of hybrid paddy seed from three Dattanagar seed production farms and storage at Jashore central seed processing store.

The probe committee members are director (finance) of BADC Mominur Rashid Amin, manager (sales) Abul Kalam Abul Kalam Azad and deputy director (establishment) Razib Hossain. They were asked to submit report by October 10.

Earlier, the BADC had suspended four officials for their alleged involvement in defalcating the seed paddy. They are Gakulnagar seed expansion farm deputy director Tapan Kumar Saha, Karincha farm deputy director Indrojit Chandra Shil, Pathila farm deputy director Akteruzzaman Talukder and Jashore seed processing centre’s deputy director Amin Ullah.

A BADC office order said that the undocumented 129.22 metric tonnes of SL8-H variety of hybrid paddy seed found at Jashore central seed processing centre. Of them 75.075 tonnes was sent from Gakulnagar seed production farm, while 32.11 tonnes from Pathila farm and remaining 22.035 tonnes from Karincha farm during the 2018-19 production season.

The three deputy directors of Gakulnagar, Karincha and Pathila in collaboration of Jashore seed processing centre deputy director Amin Ullah had made the irregularities in unethical dealing in paddy seed  for an amount of Taka over three crore.

The afore-said four deputy directors have already been attached with the head office and were advised not to leave the station without prior approval.
