Probe body formed over derogatory comment of CuU student

A three-member probe body, headed by Cumilla University Proctor Dr. Kazi Mohammad Kamal Uddin, has been formed to investigate the derogatory remark about religion delivered by a student of the university.

The two other members of the committee are Associate Professor Kazi Omar Siddique Rana and Assistant Registrar Amirul Hoque Chowdhury.

The committee was asked to submit its report within short time, said an office order issued by deputy registrar Md. Dalilur Rahman Joy Dev Chandra Shill, a 2014-15 session student of Finance and Banking department, allegedly made derogatory comment about Islam on the verified Facebook page of ‘Voice of America’ on Saturday.

He deleted it hours after posting but screenshot of the comment was already taken by some students and shared it on the university Facebook group.

Joy Dev, however, apologized for his acts.

Meanwhile, a group of students on Sunday formed a human chain and submitted an application to the vice-chancellor demanding punishment of Joy Dev for hurting religious sentiment.

Joy Dev was temporarily expelled from the university and arrested by Police under the Information and Communication Technology Act.

Kotwali model police station sub-inspector Md. Imam Hasan said that they arrested Joy Dev.
