Probe body formed over collision of oil tanker with container vessel

Chittagong Port Authorities have formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the collision of the oil tanker with container vessel in the Karnaphuli River in Patenga of Chattogram.

The accident took place at 8:30am on Friday at the channel adjacent to Chattogram Dry Dock and Boat Club, said Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Mohammad Omar Faruque.

Deputy Conservator of Chittagong Port Captain Faridul Alam has been made the head of the investigation committee. The committee has been asked to submit a detailed report, including the cause of the accident and the quantum of losses, within the next three days,

Meanwhile, on Friday afternoon the oil tanker that was clashed with the Container ship has been removed. 

According to the port sources, Express Mahananda was carrying jetties with 744 containers imported goods from Sri Lanka. At this time, the Kuwaiti oil tanker MT Burgan was leaving the dolphin jetty. At one stage, the two ships face confrontation. At this time, two were tightly stuck. Later, the ships were separated with the help of six powerful tugboats of the port.

At 12 o'clock the naval movement on the port channel became normal.
