Pro-AL panel sweeps Jashore Bar polls

Pro-Awami League candidates have swept the elections to the Jashore Bar Association held on Saturday. 

The Awami League backed lawyers panel grabbed ten posts including general secretary out of total 13 posts while the panel of Jatiyatabadi Lawyers united council got only two posts including library secretary and executive member. Besides Ganotantrik Ainjibi Samity candidate got president post.

Chief Election Commissioner of the election Advocate Ismot Hasar declared the result on Saturday night at 10:00 pm.

Sources said, Ganotantrik Ainjibi Samity candidate Advocate Kazi Faridul Islam  elected as president who got 186 votes. His rival pro-Awami League candidate Gazi Abdul Kadir got 154 votes. Pro-Awami League candidate Shanur Alom Shahin elected as general secretary who got 284 votes. His rival BNP backed Jatiyatabadi Lawyers united council  nominated candidate MA Gafur got 170 votes in the election.

The other office-bearers are: Pro-Awami League candidates Khondokar Moazzem Hossain Mukul  got 274 votes and GM Abu Musa got 192 votes  as Vice-presidents, Abul Kaies got 238 votes (Joint-Secretary), Zahidul Islam Sweet got 272 votes and Nasir Uddin got 212 votes (Assistant Secretaries), Pro-BNP candidate Nuruzzaman Khan got 234 votes (Library secretary) and Pro-Awami League candidates Rezaur Rahman got 259 votes, Abdullah Al Masud got 248 votes, Arif Shariar got 243 votes, Nabo Kumar Kundu got 210 votes and Pro-BNP candidate  Selim Reza got 247 votes as executive members. A total of  twenty seven candidates contested in the election for the 13 post. A total of 463 out of total 474 voters exercised their right of franchise in the election held from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.
