‘Priya Satyajit’ participates in fest in North America

Bangladeshi filmmaker Proshoon Rahmaan-directed film ‘Priya Satyajit’ is participating in film festivals in the United States of America and Canada.

Proshoon Rahmaan said that the film participated in the Toronto Multicultural Film Festival in Canada on Thursday, and it will participate in the Chicago South Asian Film Festival in America on September 23.

‘We made the film to pay our respects to legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray marking his birth centenary. I hope that film lovers of Canada and America will enjoy the film,’ said Proshoon Rahmaan. Priya Satyajit revolves around three filmmakers of three generations. Among the three, the first is Satyajit Ray. The two other are senior filmmaker Asif Mahmud and young filmmaker Aparajita Haque.

The film was shot in Satyajit Ray’s ancestral home in the village Moshua and adjacent villages in Kishoreganj, Old Dhaka and others. Priya Satyajit stars Ahmed Rubel and Moutushi Biswas in lead roles. The film also stars Sangeeta Chowdhury, Sayed Babu, Labonno Chowdhury, Pankaj Majumder, Ehsanul Haque, Nusrat Jahan Nodi, Abir and others.

Priya Satyajit received an uncut censor certificate on April 20, 2022.

The film had its international premiere at the South Asian Film Festival in Canada on November 12, 2022, and European premiere in the Florence International Film Festival in Italy on November 27, 2022.

The film had its Asian premiere at the Kerala International Film Festival in India on December 9 to 16. Proshoon Rahmaan’s other works are Rise and Pray, Nadi o Nirmata, Ballad of Rohingya People, Ei Puratatan Akharguli and March to December.

Priya Satyajit received Best Actor award in Feature Film Category, Best Cinematography award and Best Sound and Edit award in the Special Category at the 15th Jaipur International Film Festival in India.
