Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Md Asaduzzaman Mia on Saturday said that Rifat murder in broad daylight in Barguna, killing of accused in front of judge inside courtroom in Cumilla and increase of violation against women and children make us anxious. But the law and order situation is now completely under control. The members of minor communities are safe, he added.

Protesting and condemning the statement made by Bangladeshi national Priya Saha to US President Donald Trump, the DMP chief termed her statement as blatant lies, baseless and fabricated. Priya Saha complained to the US President with ill motive. There was an ulterior motive behind Priya Saha’s absolutely false and concocted stories that’s target was to malign Bangladesh, he said.

He also said that there is no example of harassment on the Hindu community. They are performing their religious duties and other activities peacefully. Bangladesh is now role model of religious harmony, he said.

The DMP commissioner said these while speaking at a debate competition on violent extremism at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) in the capital.

Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran presided over the debate competition, while DMP’s Additional Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy, and Associate Professor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Dr Tajul Islam Chowdhury Tuhin spoke at the event, among others.

The debate competition was arranged with the support of Manusher Jonnya Foundation. The debate team of University of South Asia won the completion in the final round defeating the team of Darun Nazat Siddikia Kamil Madrasa.

Asaduzzaman Mia said that militancy is a global problem. He stressed the need for political commitment and social awareness to combat violent extremism and militancy. The common people will never accept fundamentalism. ‘‘We are shamed over the Holey Artisan attack. We are careful so that such kind of incident can’t be happened again in the country. The law enforcers are performing their duties sincerely,’’ he said.

Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran said that the members of all religious communities live in the country with peace and harmony. Bangladesh is an example of religious freedom and communal harmony. But Priya Saha on July 17 made false and fabricated statement to the US President. Kiran demanded legal action against her.

It was seen in a video that Priya Saha was telling US President Trump that 37 million Hindu, Buddhist and Christian people have disappeared from Bangladesh. She was also seen telling the US President that her land has been grabbed by Muslim fundamentalists and sought his help so that Hindu, Buddhist and Christian people can live in Bangladesh.

Priya Saha told this to US president while participating in the Second Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom held at the US Department of State in Washington.
