Private security service providers in Bangladesh have called for greater recognition and dignity for the country's growing private security sector.

The call was made during a daylong program organized by Euro Vigil Private Limited, one of the leading private security companies in the country, on the occasion of International Security Officer Day at its Baridhara headquarters in the capital.

Senior officials of the company, trainers, and over a hundred security personnel participated in the event aimed at raising awareness, honoring the profession, and boosting the morale of private security professionals.

In the inaugural session, the company’s Managing Director greeted the security officers and handed out various gift items in recognition of their contributions.

Speaking at a discussion session moderated by Kamrul Islam, Head of Corporate Affairs, Euro Vigil’s Executive Director and CFO Asim Mondal said, “Modern security officers must go beyond traditional surveillance roles. They need to be technology-oriented, behavioral analysts, and capable crisis responders.”

He added that Euro Vigil is already training its personnel to meet such standards. Highlighting the history of the sector, Mondal noted that private security began gaining ground in Bangladesh in the 1990s, and after the 9/11 attacks in 2001, the demand and importance of security services significantly increased globally, which also impacted Bangladesh.

“There are now over 800 private security companies in Bangladesh providing services to embassies, UN agencies, NGOs, banks, and industrial institutions,” he added.

Managing Director Zoheb Amin Khan stated, “Security professionals are the silent guardians of society. Thanks to their tireless efforts, our homes, workplaces, and institutions remain safe. Positioned at the frontline, they ensure public safety.”

In today’s tech-driven world, regular training and mindset development are essential, he said, adding that Euro Vigil is continuously training its active security staff to enhance their capacity.

Referring to their contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, Khan noted that security personnel served as frontline workers in essential services and that Euro Vigil celebrates this day each year to honor the profession and aims to expand its observance in the coming years.

In the concluding session, selected security officers were presented with honorary crests and certificates in recognition of their service, dedication, and resilience.

Major (Retd.) Ahmed Numan Zaki, Assistant General Manager (Operations), stated, “Security officers still face limited access to social recognition, fair wages, and adequate training. To transform this sector into a recognized and sustainable industry, we must work collectively to ensure professional training, just compensation, and societal dignity.”
