Prisoner dies of coronavirus, 19 more infected in Lakshmipur

Fayez Ahmed Manu Mia, 45, accused in the murder case of his infant daughter, died of corona virus at Lakshmipur district jail on Sunday.

Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer ABM Nizam Uddin confirmed the information. Jail Superintendent Fani Bhushan Majumder confirming the news said that the ward Manu Mia was kept has been locked down and 45 detainees of the ward have been kept in quarantine.

On May 11, 2020, the court sent Manu Mia to jail as the accused in the murder case of his infant daughter.
Earlier on May 5, 18-month-old Farhana Sultana Raima, daughter of Manu Mia, was strangled to death and her body was dumped in a septic tank next to their house.

Police recovered the body from the septic tank five days later.
Police later arrested the child's father for questioning while, the father Fayez Ahmed Manu Mia confessed that he had brutally killed his daughter to trap his opponent.

Meanwhile, with this, the corona death toll rose to a total of 19 people, including 8 in Sadar upazila.
In addition, a traffic sergeant of the police and 18 others have been identified as new corona patients in the Sadar upazila.
A total of 947 people have been infected in the district, including 510 in Sadar upazila till now. Civil Surgeon Dr Abdul Ghaffar confirmed the information.
