Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Saturday arrested the key accused of the grisly murder of Shahidunnabi Jewel in a mob lynching on allegation of hurting religious sentiment in Burimari of Lalmonirhat's Patgram upazila recently.
The arrestee is identified as Abul Hossain alias Hossain Ali, the main rumour monger of the incident.
DB’s Mirpur Division Assistant Commissioner Tosiur Rahman Babu told that Abul Hossain was arrested from Kuril Biswa Road area in the city. Later, he was handed over to Lalmonirhat police.
Abul Hossain is the prime accused in a case filed over Lalmonirhat incident, he added.
Three cases were filed over the murder.
On October 29, Shahidunnabi Jewel, a former employee of Rangpur Cantonment Public School, was beaten and burnt to death by an angry mob in Lalmonirhat for alleged contempt of holy Quran inside a mosque.
