Shafiqul Islam Manik, accused in several cases, has been put on two-day remand in a case filed over police assault. Senior Judicial Magistrate of Kishoreganj Md Shahidul Islam Chowdhury granted the remand on Monday.
It is learned that on May 6, policemen were attacked by Shafiqul Islam Manik, an accused in several cases in the Dubail area of Kishoreganj district town. Four policemen were injured at the time. Police fired blank shots to control the situation and arrested three people at the time.
According to police sources, about 150 to 200 people led by Shafiqul Islam Manik attacked on police when they went there to arrest the accused.
Police filed a case against 19 people, including Manik as the main accused, in the connection. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station Abu Bakar Siddique said that Manik was being questioned.
