Price of chicken up, veg unstable

Prices of broiler chicken along with other vegetables and edible oil have increased further compared to previous week.  

In the capital's kitchen markets, the price of broiler chicken in the capital's markets increased by Tk 10 per kg. On the other hand, onion and green chili prices have reduced following the reduction of import duty. Almost Tk 10 reduced in per kg onion. 

On Friday while visiting different kitchen markets including Rampura, Khilgaon, Santinagar, and others such price information was found. 

According to different markets price update, traders sold broiler chicken at Tk 185 to Tk 190 per kg, which was Tk 175 to Tk 180 last week. Two weeks ago, the price of broiler chicken was Tk 165 to Tk 170 per kg. 

Like broiler chicken, the price of Sonali chickens also increased in the phase. Following several hikes, now Sonali chicken is sold at Tk 330 to Tk 350 per kg which was Tk 210 to Tk 230 in early September. 

In Rampura kitchen market, chicken trader while talking to this correspondent said, “The rising trend of chicken price will continue for another month, as supply went down. We hope price will fall following the increasing supply at the end of November." 

Last week, onion that was sold at Tk 75 to Tk 80 per kg now reduced to Tk 65 to Tk 70 taka. The price of onion has decreased by Tk 10 per kg in one day as duty for import of onion reduced by National Board of Revenue (NBR).

Karwan Bazar businessman Yousuf said that the government has withdrawn the import duty for import of onion. For this reason, the price of local onion in different wholesale markets, including Shyambazar, has decreased slightly. It will reduce further.

The prices of most vegetables in the markets have gone up by Tk 10 to Tk 20 per kg. In these markets, per kg bean is being sold at Tk 120, eggplant at Tk 60, cauliflower at Tk 60 per piece, cabbage at Tk 60, tomato at Tk 150 to Tk 160 per kg, bitter gourd at Tk 60 per kg and string bean at Tk 60 per kg. 

Per kg carrot now is being sold at Tk 160 per kg, radish at Tk 60 per kg, papaya at Tk 20 per kg, per piece gourd is Tk 60 to Tk 80 per kg, and potatoes prices are Tk 18 to Tk 20 kg. 

The price of green chili is being sold at Tk 120 per kg after a sharp fall of Tk 40 at least. Papaya is selling at Tk 20 per kg, cucumber is being sold at Tk 50 per kg.

Besides, dried chili is being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250 per kg, garlic's price is Tk 80 to Tk 130 per kg, local ginger is sold at Tk 70 to Tk 80 per kg, turmeric is being sold at Tk 160 to Tk 220 per kg. Indian pulses are being sold at Tk 90 per kg, while local pulses are sold at Tk 110 per kg.

Loose edible oil prices increased by Tk 10 per litre and is sold at Tk 160 taka per litre. There are also different brands of oil in the market available at Tk 153 to Tk 158 per litre.

Per kg sugar in the market is sold at Tk 85. Besides, packet sugar kg is sold at Tk 90.
