Lack of proper policing of the kitchen markets during the coronavirus crisis in the capital has caused a price hike of essential goods. Despite the government repeatedly saying over news media that there are sufficient stocks of food in the country, a group of unscrupulous traders are selling daily essentials at a higher price than usual. As a result, the lower income people are becoming the worst sufferers.

Facing the coronavirus spread in the country it is imperative for the dealers of essential goods to contain the price of commodities as much as possible. The lack of consumers is another issue that has caused the prices to go up.

On another note, the severity of the issue must be taken not of by the government and ensure that proper policing can take place at the kitchen markets so that the prices of essential goods is kept normal.

Otherwise, high price of goods can prove to have adverse impact on the food economy of the country. Moreover, proper policing should also be maintained so that no syndication can take place prior to the month of Ramadan.

A report published in this daily states that the supply of such goods in the country is well maintained and thus prices should be normal, but in reality the lack of proper policing has caused the shop owners to exercise free will and ask prices which are far from normal.

Stocks of different essential commodities, including oil, pulse, onion, garlic and salt are abundant. Also, the overall stock in this year is around 40 percent more than the previous year. Still, the government should take responsibility and ensure that no panic buying of goods takes place. This can do more harm than any good to the country and her people.
