Speakers at a press conference on Sunday opined that the prices of construction materials, especially rod-cement, and if the proposed DAP is implemented, the prices of flats will increase in near future and may go beyond the reach of the middle class.
The REal Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) organised the press conference at a city hotel to announce the five-day REHAB housing fair, scheduled to begin on Thursday.
Vice President (First) Kamal Mahmood presided over the event while Mohammad Sohail Rana, senior vice president of the organization red out a written handout in the press conference.
The REHAB leaders said that the housing industry was going through a major crisis during the epidemic. However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's decision to provide far-reaching incentives for investment saved the sector from crisis. The money that was supposed to go out of the country has been invested in various sectors in this country, including the housing sector.
However, the leaders expressed concern over the recent rise in prices of construction materials and the proposed DAP.They said a total of 220 stalls will be accommodated in the fair and will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center. About 150 housing companies will participate. The fair will continue till December 27.
Vice President (First) Kamal Mahmood said that the price of flats will go up in future due to increase in prices of construction materials.
15 construction entities and 30 banks and financial institutions will participate in the fair. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will inaugurate the fair. State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed and RAJUK Chairman ABM Amin UllahNoori will be present at the occasion.
The entrance fee for single entry of the fair has been fixed at Tk 50 and Tk100 for multiple entries. The fair can be entered once with a single entry ticket and five times with multiple entry tickets.
“The REHAB Housing Fair started in Dhaka in 2001. Besides, REHAB has successfully completed 14 fairs in Chittagong. The company has been organizing housing fairs abroad since 2004,” said Rana.
So far, 12 REHAB Housing Fairs have been successfully completed in the United States, 1 in the United Kingdom, Dubai, Rome, Italy, Canada, Sydney, Qatar and 2 in Dubai. By organizing these fairs, REHAB is continuing its efforts to create and expand the housing industry market at home and abroad, he added.
He further said that through the REHAB Fair, expatriate buyers have found the accommodation of their choice in the country and also foreign currency is being earned through this fair. Not only that, it is enriching the economy of the country as well as playing a unique role in the development of housing industry.The press conference was attended by REHAB Vice President Lion Sharif Ali Khan, REHAB directors and other leaders.
