Price hike in Rangpur puts buyers in distress

From the beginning of Ramadan, the prices of daily necessities have gone up in the market of Rangpur. Prices of almost all products have gone up. Although the prices of one or two products are normal, the main ingredients of Iftar in Ramadan as pulses, sugar, flour, fish and meat along with flour are being sold at higher prices. Edible oil prices have started falling though. The price of onion has also come down during the week. 

  Although the prices of eggs, green chillies and sajna have come down, the prices of eggplant and cucumber have doubled. However, the rice market remains unchanged. All in all, the middle class has suffered due to the increase in the prices of daily necessities.

    On the spot, it can be seen that in different markets of Rangpur city, one liter bottled soybean oil is now being sold at 160 Tk and five liter oil at 760 Tk. Last week, a one-liter bottled soybean oil was Tk 168 and a five-liter bottle was Tk 780. However, open soybeans are being sold at Tk 165 to Tk 170 like last week. Broiler chickens are being sold at Tk 160 to 170 per kg, Pakistani chickens at Tk 280 to 290 per kg and layer chickens at Tk 240 to 250 per kg. However, the price of domestic chicken has increased. Last week it was sold at Tk 460 to 450 but now it is being sold at Tk 470 to 480. Meat prices are also on the rise. Beef is being sold at Tk 620 to Tk 650 and mutton at Tk 850 to Tk 900 per kg.

At the retail level, tomatoes are being sold at Tk 20 to 25 per kg, carrots at Tk 25 and peas at Tk 50 per kg. Karala increased from 50 to 60 Tk to 60 to 70 Tk, the price of eggplant increased from 35 to 40 Tk, round eggplant increased from 40 Tk to 50 Tk, bean increased from 25 to 30 Tk, cucumber increased from 30 Tk to 60 to 70 Tk. 25 for papaya, 25 to 30 Tk for lemon, 55 to 60 Tk per kg for green chillies, 350 Tk per kg for dried chillies, 20 Tk per piece for cabbage, 30 to 35 Tk for cauliflower, 40 to 45 Tk per piece for gourd, 30 to 30 Tk for raw banana. 40 Tk, potato 60 to 70 Tk, barbati 40 to 45 Tk, patal 60 to 70 Tk, sajone 60 to 70 Tk, sweet potato and sweet pumpkin 25 to 30 Tk per kg and local onion 30 and Indian onion 25 Tk. Besides, ginger is being sold at Tk 70-80 to Tk 70-90, garlic at Tk 50-60 and chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 32 in the retail market.

Dulal Mia, a chicken trader in Rangpur City Bazar, said broilers and Pakistani chickens were being sold like last week. However, due to the decline in domestic chicken imports, the price has gone up to Tk 20 per kg. Vegetable seller Yunus Ali said prices have come down due to increase in import of some vegetables in the market. However, the demand for cucumber and eggplant has increased on the occasion of Ramadan.

Besides, open sugar is being sold at Tk 60 per kg and packet sugar at Tk 75, gram at Tk 80, lentil medium at Tk 100, small lentil at Tk 130, flour packet at Tk 40 and open pack at Tk 36 to 38 and flour at Tk 55 to 60. There is not much difference in the price of rice in the retail market during the week. Gold (thick) is being sold at Tk 48 per kg, Bridhan-29 at Tk 58, Bridhan-26 at Tk 58 to 60, Miniket at Tk 68 and Nazirshail at Tk 75 per kg in different markets. Turning to the fish market, it can be seen that the prices of all kinds of fish remain unchanged.

Rui fish (depending on size) 250 to 300 Tk, Mrigel 280 to 300 Tk, Pangas 130 to 140 Tk, Tilapia 180 to 200 Tk, Big Shrimp 800 to 850 Tk, Cattle 250 to 280 Tk, Bata 150 to 180 Tk, Sarpunti 180 From Tk 200 Tk Rs 200, catfish from Tk 350 to Tk 400 and silver carp from Tk 140 to Tk 200 per kg.

The spice market is also bigger than before. Zakir Hossain, a spice trader in City Bazar, said that the price of cumin in spices is a bit higher. Besides, the price of all spices has increased from Tk 10 to Tk 50 per kg. Consumers have complained that there are no measures to control the market. Rahmat Ali, a resident of Hanumantala area, a buyer of City Bazar, said, "Prices of all commodities have gone up. Slavery of goods has been increased in the month of Ramadan rather than in such times. The traders are not listening to anyone's words. ' We are struggling to make ends meet.

In this regard, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan said that various government agencies and institutions are working to control the market price. Mobile courts are being run almost every day in eight upazilas of the district. The traders are being warned and made aware of the jail-fines in the mobile court.
