Price fall as large-cap stocks down

Stock markets Wednesday witnessed downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

The falling major sectors were IT, engineering and financial institutions. A total of 135 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities, reports BSS.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 21.88 points down at 5,196.03. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 9.15 points down at 1,194.22 and with 12.70 points down at 1,812.82.

The daily trade rose to 9.28 crore shares from Tuesday’s 8.48 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE increased to Taka 256.28 crore from Taka 251.36 crore of the previous session.At DSE, out of the day’s 341 securities, prices of 103 securities closed higher against 173 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were United Insurance, Premier Cement, NFML, Pragati Insurance and Sonar Bangla Insurance. The major losing companies were

DAFODILCOM, SS Steel, Aamra Net, First Finance and EXIM1STMF. BRAC Bank topped the turnover list followed by Fortune, Square Pharma, Premier Bank and IFIC.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 50.29 points down at 15,912.

At CSE, 206 issues were traded. Of those, 69 closed higher and 105 closed lower when 53.81 lakh shares worth Taka 11.71 crore changed hands.
