Abdul Hye, a valiant freedom fighter and younger brother of President M Abdul Hamid, died of Covid-19 at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka in the early hours of Friday. He was 67.
“He breathed his last around 1.15 am at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka where he was undergoing treatment with Coronavirus infection since July 2,” President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS in the morning.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Md. Abdul Hye.
In a condolence message, the premier prayed for the peace of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Deputy Speaker M Fazle Rabbi Miah expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Abdul Hye.
In a condolence message, Obaidul Quader, Road Transport and Bridges Minister and also Awami League’s general secretary, prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Abdul Hye had been serving as the Assistant Personal Secretary (APS) to the President.
He left behind his wife, a son, two daughters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
He was the eighth of his nine brothers and sisters.
Born at Mithamain of the Kishoreganj district in 1953, Abdul Hye was the commander of Mithamain Muktijoddha Sangsad.
He started his job as an APS to the Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad in 1997 and went on retirement as a deputy director of Public Relations unit in the Parliament Secretariat on December 30 in 2013.
Hye was involved in different socio-cultural and development organizations. He was also a professor of Bir Muktijoddha Abdul Haque Government College and founder of Hazi Taeb Uddin School in Miathmain upazila.
He will be buried at his family graveyard in Miathmain on Sunday after Zohr prayers.
