President and Prime Minister mourn death of Azizur Rahman

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed grief over the death of Azizur Rahman, a former member of the Constituent Assembly and chairman of Moulvibazar District Council. On Tuesday (August 18) morning, the head of state and government expressed grief over the death of the veteran politician.

Earlier, Azizur Rahman, chairman of Moulvibazar district council, a close associate of Bangabandhu, breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) in the capital on Monday night.

He was admitted to BSMMU on August 5 when he contracted corona. He was brought to Dhaka from Moulvibazar by air ambulance on the instructions of the Prime Minister.

Azizur Rahman served as the chairman of Moulvibazar District Council and Red Crescent till his death.

In his illustrious political life, he was elected member of parliament multiple times and was a former whip.

He served as the joint general secretary of the Central Awami League. Besides, Azizur Rahman played important roles including district president of Awami League and district coordinator of 14 parties.

He was a member of the Constituent Assembly and a signatory to the Constitution of Bangladesh. He was nominated for the Swadhinata Padak for his outstanding contribution to the freedom struggle.

Azizur Rahman was directly Bangabandhu-influenced politician, a non-violent and amicable political and social personality in the Moulvibazar region.
