A preparatory meeting ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room in Narail town on Sunday noon. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sharmin Akhter Jahan, with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Linkon Biswas moderating the session.
Present at the meeting were Superintendent of Police Md Rabiul Islam, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department Julia Sukaina, Lohagora Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abu Riyad, Kalia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Rasheduzzaman, District Commandant of Ansar and VDP Md Nurul Absar, Deputy Director of the Islamic Foundation Md Mizanur Rahman, District Information Officer Md Rostam Ali, Assistant Director of the Narcotics Control Department Shirin Akhter, along with leaders from the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Kallyan Front and Puja Udjapan Parishad, and representatives of law enforcement agencies and local media.
Speakers at the meeting emphasised the long-standing tradition of communal harmony in the district, highlighting how Durga Puja has been celebrated peacefully over the years. They expressed confidence that this year’s festival would also pass smoothly, owing to the prevailing atmosphere of religious tolerance.
Deputy Commissioner Sharmin Akhter Jahan assured that all necessary arrangements would be made to ensure a safe and joyful Durga Puja. She stated that strict security measures would be enforced at every Puja mandap, including monitoring through CCTV cameras. She also urged all to refrain from spreading rumours and to work collectively in maintaining peace.
This year, a total of 524 Puja mandaps will be erected across Narail district. The five-day festival will commence on 28 September with Shashthi and conclude on 2 October with the immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga.
