Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said that the vaccination program for primary students above the age of five will start soon.

"We have talked to the education ministry. I asked them to prepare a list of students and vaccination centres,” said the minister.

He shared the information while speaking to the media after an emergency meeting of the health department at noon on Monday.

"We are preparing for the vaccination of primary students keeping in touch with the World Health Organization. We will start the activities as soon as we get their approval,” he said.

The students who are over the age of 12 are being vaccinated. This is important to focus on the children who are below 12 years and above five years.

The minister said, “We are constantly in touch with the Ministry of Education in this regard. They said that the students were being listed. We are taking our preparation.”

When asked about the possible timing of the vaccination program for the primary students, he replied, it depends on the decision of the World Health Organization. Nothing can be said for sure right now.

Meanwhile, according to the Department of Primary Education, the officials have been instructed to send information on the number of age-based students and vaccination centres to bring students studying in primary schools under the age of at least five years under vaccination.
