An important preparatory meeting for the long-awaited Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections was held at the university’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban yesterday.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Returning Officer Dr Mohammad Zashim Uddin, a professor of the Botany department, reviewed election-related preparations and finalised schedules for upcoming coordination meetings, said a press release issued by the university.
Several returning officers were present at the meeting, including Professor Dr ASM Mohiuddin of the Soil, Water and Environment department, Professor Dr Golam Rabbani of the Social Welfare and Research Institute, Professor Dr Kazi Maruful Islam of Development Studies, Professor Dr Nasrin Sultana of the Health Economics Institute, Professor Dr Md Shahidul Islam Zahid of Banking and Insurance, Professor Dr Tariq Manzoor of Bangla, and Associate Professor Sharmin Kabir of the Institute of Education and Research.
As per decisions taken at the meeting, the Chief Returning Officer along with other returning officers will hold a coordination meeting with hall provosts at 10:30am on June 24.
Besides, discussions with active student organisations will be held in two phases on June 26.
The meetings aim to make the elections inclusive, transparent and peaceful, ensuring participation from all quarters on campus.
DU authorities have yet to announce the final election date, though preparations have gained momentum in recent weeks.
