Preparations for holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims, are underway in the capital. Devoted Muslims are gearing up to celebrate the holy occasion amid religious fervour and enthusiasm after a month-long fasting. Dhaka Metropolitan Police has taken stringent security measures to ensure smooth holding of Eid congregations across the city.
In the capital, the main Eid congregation will be held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises. President Abdul Hamid is expected to join the Eid Jamaat. However, the venue of the main congregation will be shifted to Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in case of any inclement weather. Already, necessary measures have been taken to prepare the national Eidgah for Eid congregation.
A good number of workers are working relentlessly to erect shamiana on the national Eidgah to relieve the devotees’ of the scorching heat of the summer sun.
Arrangements will be there at the National Eidgah and the National Mosque for women to take part in the Eid prayers alongside their male counterparts. The law enforcement agencies have taken all-out preparation to ensure smooth movement of vehicles on highways, waterways and train routes.
The main city streets and road islands will decorated with the national flags and banners inscribed with 'Eid Mubarak' in Bangla and Arabic. Special diet will be served in hospitals, jails, government orphanages, centres for persons with disabilities, shelter homes and vagrant and destitute welfare centres. State-run Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private TV channels are airing special programmes on the occasion.
