A seven-month pregnant housewife, was strangled to death by her husband on early Sunday.
The incident took place at Shibnathpur Baropota village under Benapole Port Police Station in Jashore.
The deceased was identified as Ruma Khatun, 19 wife of Ariful Islam Tutul of the village. She was the daughter of Abdul Khaleq of Ichapur village under the same police station.
Her husband Tutul has been absconding since the incident. Police and locals said Tutul was a drug dealer and drug addict.
Allegedly, not getting money for drugs, he strangled his wife and later hanged the body with a rope around her neck.
Ruma's brother Shamim Hossain said, they are being threatened not to file complaint in this connection.
Local UP Member Momin Uddin said, “There was no information why the girl had committed suicide by hanging herself. There were occasional quarrels between the couple and I used to settle that.”
Benapole Port police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamun Khan said, it is being thought that she was killed by suffocation. The body was recovered and sent to the morgue of Jashore General Hospital for autopsy. After receiving the report, it can be confirmed whether it is murder or suicide.
