A pregnant schoolgirl was suffocated to death by her boyfriend in Manohar Babupara village of Rangpur district. The deceased was identified as Purnima Rani Roy.
Primarily, it was thought that Purnimacommitted suicide. But the police of Rangpur Metropolitan Hazirhat Police Station has revealed the murder mystery.
Police believe that she was suffocated to death with a pillow. The main accused Surjit and his accomplice Shyamal have been arrested on charges of involvement in the murder.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police confirmed this at a press conference at the office of Rangpur Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Kazi Muttakin Ibn Minan on Sunday. Also present at the time was Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Md. Shahidullah Kawsar PPM.
Surjit Chandra Roy of the same area fell in love with Purnima Rani Roy alias Sundari, a seventh-grade student of Manohar High School, daughter of Fatik Chandra Roy of Manohar Babupara village.
At one stage of the relationship, Purnima became pregnant. When Purnima pressured Surjit to get married, a quarrel broke out between them. At one stage, Surjit killed her by pressuring a pillow against her face,suffocated her to death and then hanged her body.
When Purnima's relatives saw her hanging bodythey informed the police, the police recovered her andfound out about the pregnancy.
Fatik Chandra Roy, the father of the deceased, filed a case against Surjit at the Rangpur Metropolitan Hazirhat Police Station. Surjit surrendered to the court. Later, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Shah Alam, applied for remand in the court and the court granted him a two-day remand application. On Saturday, August 8, he gave a confessional statement under section 164 in court.
