Theatre troupe Prangone More staged ‘Irsha’, marking the third death anniversary of late eminent poet-playwright Syed Shamsul Haq, at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.

The play, written by Syed Shamsul Haq, has been directed by Ananta Hira.

Independence Award-winning poet-playwright Syed Shamsul Haq created a new trend in contemporary Bangla drama.

He passed away on September 27, 2016 at the age of 80.

‘Irsha’ depicts the inherent feeling of jealousy that often takes over the minds of lovers. A highly experimental play,  ‘Irsha’ revolves around three characters – an aged artist, a young girl and a young man – and employs only seven dialogues, the shortest one being 16 minutes while the longest one is 36 minutes.

The aged artist and the young man are at daggers drawn. Both are trying to win the heart of the girl they love.

But the play offers more than just an average tale of jealousy and love. It explores the depth of the human mind and shows how an uncontrollable pang of jealousy can lead to the myriad of emotions and traits that humans experience on a daily basis.
