The potato yield has surpassed the target in the district this season.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said farmers produced 1, 14,159 tonnes of potato against the target of 103090 tonnes, a surplus of 13,861 tonnes. They said 4985 hectares of land were brought under potato cultivation this year.
The agriculture officials opined that availability of agricultural input, favourable weather, absence of insect attack, less rainfall and less fog are behind the good yield of potato. Additional Deputy Director of DAE Mohammad Sakhawatul Ikram said farmers cultivated sixteen varieties of potato seed in the current season.
Among those, farmers got 36317 tonnes diamond variety from 1602 hectares of land, 34146 tonnes cardinal from 1411 hectares, 18841 tonnes estarix from 776 hectares, 2692 tonnes granula from 124 hectares, 2880 tonnes BARI-5 from 120 hectares.
