Farmers along with locals of Gurudaspur upazila of Natore have arranged a human chain programme against pond excavation in agricultural land.
More than 300 people of Nazirpur area took part in the protest. Teachers and concerned citizens of the area spoke at the protest.
They stated that more than 3000 farmers have agricultural lands at Mamudpur field area. The fields there become water logged as couple of lands were excavated to make ponds. Recently influentials of the area tried to make new ponds again. The environmental damages will increase if happens so, along the water logged state of the area will get worsen. Thus the farmers protested against this act.
Arafat Sonar, one of the accused stated that he is against pond excavation and does not want a pond in his field. The complaints were not true, he added.
Gurudaspur UNO Tomal Hossain said authorities will not let anyone excavate pond at agricultural land. As it is against the law, such act will be dealt with strong punishment.
