Polythene sheet on seedbeds gains popularity in Chatmohar

Farmers of Chatmohar in Pabna are making last minute efforts to protect Boro seedbed from cold. Many farmers in the area are covoring seedbeds with polythene sheds so that the seedbeds are not damaged in winter and fog. Being aware of its benefits, this method of making seedbed in modern technique is becoming more and more popular. On the one hand, as the saplings are being protected from decay, on the other hand, it is becoming suitable for planting seedlings at a faster time.

Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officers are urging the farmers at the field level to prepare seedbeds in this manner. Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Saidur Rahman said that during the Boro season last year, Boro paddy production activities were taken up in 150 bighas of land of 85 farmers of Mathurapur village in Chatmohar under government management at "Samalay". There the seeds are sown in trays covered with polythene sheds. Due to the production of good quality saplings, the farmers have maintained the method this year as well. Farmer Yusuf Ali said that the seedlings are protected from disease and decay by covering the seedbed with polythene shed. The growth of seedlings is also accelerating. This will reduce the loss of seedlings.

Upazila Agriculture Officer  Masum Billah said that the farmers have got the benefits of this modern method and the method has received a wide response. In this method, the rice seedlings remain fresh, the incidence of diseases is less and the seedlings can grow faster as the seedlings grow faster. The method is spreading in different areas of Chatmohar.
