Elections to five city corporations-- Gazipur, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal and Khulna-- will be held by September next, Election Commissioner Md Alamgir said on Sunday.
“The commission has discussed about holding elections in Gazipur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet and Barishal. We will try to hold the elections within September next,” he said while replying to reporters at his office at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon.
Asked whether the polls in five cities will be held in a same day, the election commissioner said the elections to five cities can be held in two days or three days.
He said the commission is yet to discuss about schedule of Gazipur City Corporation but it is eager to hold the election within June next.
Replying to another question on using CCTV camera in city elections, he said it will depend on budget.
“We will seek budgetary allocation. If we get allocation, we will use CCTV camera. But we have eagerness to use EVMs,” he said.
