Leaders of Awami League (AL), Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jatiya Party and other political parties are doing the ground work for the next general elections as they think polls will be very competitive.
Although the BNP is yet to make a decision to join the next parliamentary elections, many BNP leaders are silently making preparations for the polls, according to party insiders.
The BNP leaders and workers are contacting about the elections and looking for a way to participate in the election.
Chairman of Jatiya Party GM Quader has already said that his party will field candidates in 300 seats in the upcoming general elections.
They will not join hands with anyone. The party has already taken preparations for the elections alone.
Besides, leaders of other parties-- Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), different Islamic and left leaning parties are also gearing up their activities to launch campaigns at their respective constituencies.
Talking to reporters AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the general election is knocking at the door.
“Our party leaders and workers are taking preparation for the next general elections. No political rival would be able to prevent Awami League’s victory if its leaders and workers remain united,” he added.
Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader the leaders and workers of the party have already taken preparations for the elections alone.
Replying to a query he said as they have not decided not to go to the polls, their leaders and workers working hard to get people’s support in the next polls.
So, with hardly two and half months to go for the general elections, poll fever is gradually gripping the people with even tea stall, dinner table, and drawing room talk zeroing in on which political party will form the country’s next government.
According to the Election Commission, the 12th Jatiya Sangsad elections will be held in the first week of January, 2024 and the schedule will be announced in the next month (November).
Therefore, race for nomination has also garnered significant hype in all constituencies in the country as the aspirants believe the next polls will be held on time.
The leaders of ruling AL, BNP, Jatiya Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and Jamaat are scrambling for the party ticket to run for their respective constituencies in the next general elections.
Only those who can prove their worth for this competitive election will be nominated.
As the battle to get party ticket among their probable candidates is getting fierce, the top district leaders of AL and BNP have also intensified their efforts to contain intra-party conflicts and strengthen their parties’ organisational capacity.
They all are holding views-exchange meetings, discussions and various programmes with grassroots leaders and activists to make them united and motivated for working for the candidates who will bag their respective party tickets.
On the other side, BNP aspirants are also staging demonstrations, rallies and meetings as part their ‘one-point’ movement with the goal to remove AL from the power to hold the upcoming national elections under a neutral government.
The nomination seekers have set up big banners and posters at the important points in the constituencies, intersections of highways and road, and on boundary walls across the country.
The AL leaders are highlighting government’s government development works as it has constructed different educational institutions, mosques, temples, rural roads, bridges, culverts and other infrastructures in the remote area of the country.
The construction of the roads, bridges, culverts and other infrastructures has improved rural communication networks to facilitate farm and non-farm economy and upgraded the life standard of rural people through providing easier and quicker access to basic service delivery centers like schools and hospitals in every constituency of the country.
Local people said they will cast their votes in favour of a candidate who sacrifices in realising their rights and for continuity of the current development spree in their respective constituencies.
As the general election is approaching, local leaders of AL, BNP, Jatiya Party and other political parties have also paid attention to make their respective parties more strong in their constituency across the country.
The nomination seekers have already started early field work to win the people’s hearts in their constituency.
But the ruling AL and BNP will have to struggle to have a single Member of Parliament (MP) candidate for most of the constituencies.
Besides, local leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami are also taking preparations silently for contesting the next general elections though they are yet to confirm whether their party will be allowed to participate in the national polls.
