Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamunon Tuesday said that every policeman of the country is committed to become the people's police as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"Apart from maintaining the law and order of the country, the police personnel have continued humanitarian activities in the service of the people. Police Blood Bank is a prime example of this," he said.

The IGP said this while addressing a function at SI Shiru Mia Auditorium of Rajarbagh Police Lines here as the chief guest, marking the 13th founding anniversary of the Police Blood Bank, said a press release.

With Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman in the chair, the programme was attended, among others, by Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) MdSharfuddin Ahmed as main discussant, the release added.

The IGP said that as the policemen sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War at the call of the Father of the Nation, they do not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for the protection of law and order.

Highlighting the contribution of police blood bank to the country, he said that the Police Blood Bank has given 5,100 bags of plasma during COVID-19 which is a unique record.
