For the first time three corona virus infected persons have been iidentified in Kushtia on Wednesday. All three victims are men. One of them is a Dhaka returnee police SI, one is a bank official and the other is an old man in his sixties.
The victims are identified as Kazi Ataul, 35, a policeman is the son of Ratan Kazi of Osmanpur village in Osmanpur Union under Khoksha upazila, Mahbub Ahmed Chappal, 30, a bank official, resident of 238, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Road, of Aruapara area in Kushtia town, and Akkas Ali, 69, son of Shukur Ali of Gottiya village of Koya union under Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia.
Kushtia Civil Surgeon Dr HM Anwarul Islam confirmed that three people have been identified with corona virus infection adding that Mahabub Ahmed Chappal was working as an officer at Sonali Bank's head office in Madaripur district. He arrived at his home in Kushtia from Madaripur on March 25. From then on he was staying at his home in Kushtia. The other patient Akkas Ali did not leave Kushtia district recently and the policeman Kazi Ataul is currently working in SB of DMP he came home from Dhaka by a motorcycle on Tuesday night.
The policeman was tested for corona virus infection in Dhaka’s IEDCR on Monday and the other two had been suffering from fever, chills and shortness of breath for the past few days, their samples were collected on Tuesday and sent to Dhaka for testing.
The positive report of the two came from Dhaka on Wednesday morning and IEDCR called the policeman over phone on Wednesday noon to inform him about his corona infection.
Upon receiving the news, some houses, including the homes of the three victims, have been declared locked down. So far 339 coronavirus samples have been collected from Kushtia district. Negative reports of 155 of them were received.
Meanwhile, health workers are fearful of detecting more coronavirus patients in Kushtia. According to the district administration, more than 2,200 people have come to Kushtia in the last two weeks from the capital and Narayanganj. Although they have been asked to stay in compulsory home quarantine, they are not complying and are moving in the locality. The Civil Surgeon said that the coronavirus detection test is starting in the PCR lab of Kushtia General Hospital from Thursaday.
