A police officer was seriously injured during a late-night raid in the Saltgola Crossing area under Bandar Police Station in Chattogram city. The incident occurred on Monday when a procession involving Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League activists turned violent.
Sub-Inspector Abu Sayeed Rana was attacked with sharp weapons, suffering injuries to his head, neck, hands, and stomach. He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
In response, police launched a raid from midnight to 4 am across the Bandar area, arresting 18 individuals and recovering domestic weapons.
The arrested include members from various districts such as Bagerhat, Feni, Chandpur, Bhola, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur.
Two cases have been filed under the Arms Act and Anti-Terrorism Act. Police say the drive is ongoing to arrest others involved in the attack.
