Police to show zero tolerance against drugs, militancy

Police super of Manikganj Rifat Rahman Shamim on Sunday pledged zero tolerance against drugs and militancy, saying he would continue his efforts to ensure peace and security for inhabitants of the district.

He made the comment while addressing an opinion exchange meeting with the civil society. Under the banner of 'Open House Day', the Sadar thana police administration arranged the programme held at Sadar Thana compound in the district town on Sunday afternoon.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station  Md. Rakibuzzaman presided over the meeting while Superintendent of police in Manikganj Rifat Rahman Shamim was present as chief guest.

Additional Police Superintendent Mohiuddin Ahamed Mukul, Joint Secretary of district Awami-Leuge AFM Sultanul Azam Khan Apple, President of Pouro Awami-Leuge Monayem Khan, Femel Vice-Chairman of Sadar upazila Begum Saleha Islam, among others, were addressed as special guests.

Apart from them a good number of people of the civil society, members of Community Policing in district, police officers, government officers, Public representatives, and journalists formally exchanged views in the congenial atmosphere.

The police chief of the district in his speech said, there was no sharp difference between ‘Public and Police’ demand. People want to lave on peace full life and Police are after a crime less society. “Be with police, consider them as friends, and we are ready to give supreme security to the people,” he commitment.

The SP said, it is quite impossible to build a drug and crime-free society for law enforcers alone. He also warned if negligence was found in members of the police and if they misbehave with the people drastic action will be taken against them. He lauded the activities of the community police.

The police Super stressed the need for launching a social movement and creating awareness among the people about the bad effects of narcotics, sexual harassment, gambling, pornography, militancy and child marraige for building a crime-free society.

The SP also appealed to the guardians to look after their children and their activities. “If you fail to control them, inform the police for help”, he asked. At the meeting the people vowed to resist drug use and trade in their respective areas.
