The owner of a pond complained through a press conference in Natore on Saturday that police resisted re-excavating the 60-year old pond at Naldanga of Natore district.

Co-sharer of the pond Rezaul Karim Khan alleged, he obtained a permission from the concerned authorities by following the rules to re-excavate the 60-year old, silted pond  and took measure to excavate it when police from Naldanga police station rushed to the spot on Friday and took away the batteries of the excavator machines and thus suspending the works of re-excavation of the pond.

He demanded legal assistance from the local administration in this connection.

Meanwhile, Humayun Kabir, Officer-in-charge of Naldanga Police station informed, by being informed about excavation of the pond, he went to the spot and finding no one on the spot, he took out the batteries and the key of the excavator. There was no written permission from the administration to excavate the pond, he added. To calm the agitated local people who were demanding to stop excavation of the pond, he took the action. However, necessary action will be taken over in this connection after inquiry, he added.
