The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DPM) recently claimed to have solved a clueless murder, in which a cobbler was killed for just Tk 10,000. On February 4, police recovered the decomposed body of Montu Rishi from a house in the capital’s Khilkhet area. Following the murder, the DB opened investigation into the murder and arrested the lone suspect on February 23, Deputy Commissioner (DB-North) Moshiur Rahman told the Bangladesh Post.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Md Jonayed Alam Sarker led the special operation while ADC (DB-North) Md Shajahan Shaju supervised it. According to ADC Jonayed, the suspected killer has been identified as Md Humayun Kabir, 30, son of one Sheikh Armoj Ali from Nandail Upazila of Mymensing district.

Humayun also confessed to killing the cobber before a Dhaka court on February 26, ADC Shajahan said. Explaining the details, ADC Shajahan said that both the victim and the suspect were neighbours and resided at their rented houses in Khilkhet. He said, “Humayun borrowed Tk 10,000 from Montu last year. However, disputes arose between them after Humayun could not repay the loan.

“On January 30, Humayun stormed into the Montu’s house and strangled the latter to death,” ADC Shajahan said. ADC Jonayed said, “It was a clueless murder. “But after long investigation, we successfully solved it and arrested the lone suspect,” he added. Police would press charges in the murder soon, said DC Rahman.
