Media and Publication Wing of Bangladesh Police recently initiated a drive to arrest a youth in connection with assaulting a girl at broad day light in city’s Jatrabari area. Talking to the Bangladesh Post, Assistant Inspector General(AIG) of Police Headquarters’ Media and Public Wing Mir Sohel Rana confirmed it on Tuesday.
He said, “On February 15, a conscious citizen sent a viral video clip through the official Facebook page of Bangladesh Police. A teenage girl was seen being assaulted on a overbridge in city’s Jatrabari area by a group of youths. Some pedestrians were also seen moving beside the scene. But no one came to rescue the girl. After receiving the video clip, we sent it to the Inspector Mazharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari Police Station.”
AIG Sohel Rana said, “We had instructed the concerned police officer to identify both the victim and the attackers. Getting instruction, OC Mazharul Islam assigned a special team of Jatrabari Police Station. But since there were no details about the victim and the attacker, local police collected the identity of the key-accused using intelligence.”
Police started operation to arrest the criminal, who was identified as Saddam Hossain Ridoy. Saddam was arrested on June 14 from the city. But police initially did not find any trace of the victim as local people informed police that they never saw the girl in the area. Police continued their hectic efforts to find the victim. At one stage, local police trace the victim also.
During the primary interrogation, arrested Saddam admitted that he cunningly made love with several girls.
He blackmailed them to earn money. When any girl refused his proposal, he took revenge.
