The police personnel in Jhenaidah have adopted zero tolerance policy to maintain discipline on roads. Avoiding road accidents, discouraging under aged youth to drive motorbike and making people aware not to hand over motorbikes to their minor children were the main objectives behind this.
Jhenaidah district traffic unit in charge Mohammad Salahuddin said as advised by the superintendent of police (SP) Muntasirul Islam, they have been conducting drives on roads to keep the roads free from any untoward accidents.
To discourage the minor boys with motorbikes on the roads, they have been taking action like fili0ng cases and impose fine. They have been motivating the guardians so that they could not purchase any motorbike for the minor children who have been meeting road accidents frequently.
The traffic boss said conducting a long time drive at Kabirpur tinrasta turning in Shailkupa upazila headquarters on Thursday they had filed 46 cases where a total of 21 motorbikes were seized by the law enforcers.
SP Muntasirul Islam when contacted said a good number of road accidents caused by the minors who come to roads without any valid documents and safety gears and drive the bikes recklessly. The objectives of their present drives were to check the accidents so that, the roads might be safe for all round the clock. This sort of drives will help aware the guardians in near and far future, SP said.
