Reigning champions Bashundhara Kings and the Port City giants Chittagong Abahani Limited will lock horn in the last match of the group stage of the ongoing Independence Cup football will take place at the Bashundhara Kings Arena on December 1.
A total of six teams, Bangladesh Police, Rahmatganj MFS, Dhaka Abahani Limited, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) and Bangladesh Army confirmed their place into the last eight.
Two times champions Bashundhara Kings are on top of the Group D with three points from one match.
Chittagong Abahani who clinched the title in 2016 have a little chance to reach into the quarters. As they will have to cross a stiff hurdle of defeating the holders Bashundhara.
The services team Bangladesh Navy secured the quarter final place.
Bangladesh Police and the Old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj MFS set to play the first quarter-final on December 3. Two times champions Dhaka Abahani Limited will face off the Sheikh Jamal DC on same day.
Traditional Black and White, Mohammedan Sporting Club will face the Group D runners up, which will be settled on December 1 after Bashundhara Kings and Chittagong Abahani match. Bangladesh Army and Group D champion will lay their match on December 4.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Police and Sheikh Jamal became champion and runner up in Group A with securing six and three points respectively from two matches.
Dhaka Abahani won their all group matches to earn full nine points from three encounters when they did not concede a single goal against their six goals. Rahmatganj MFS obtained four points from two outings. They scored four goals and conceded 3 when sheikh Russel Krira Chakra also earned four points but they scored one goal and conceded two goals and Rahmatganj won the ticket by virtue of goal difference (+1).
Meanwhile, three times title holders Mohammedan SC, the services team Bangladesh Army and the newcomers Fortis FC, all the three teams collected two points each from their two matches. But Mohammedan and Abngladesh Army reached into last eight by goal defference. Mohammedan became group champion and Bangladesh Army became runners up in Group C.
