Police beat Narail BCL leader brutally

Police beat a former leader of local Chhatra League and seriously injured him for not wearing a mask at Sheikhhati area in Narail Sadar upazila on Thursday.

Sources said, Sheikhhati police camp in-charge Sub-Inspector Enamul, assistant Sub-Inspector Alomgir and other policemen beat the former leader of union Chhatra League Tariqul Islam Manik.  

He was taken to Narail Sadar Hospital and now undergoing treatment there. Injured Manik’s mother Latifa Begum, filed a petition with the Narail Police Super on Saturday demanding justice. 

Tariqul Islam Manik is the Regional Manager of Alibaba Door & Furniture in Dhaka. Due to  coronavirus, the organization was closed down and he returned to Sheikhhati village. On Thursday (March 26), around 9:00am, he returned to the raw market on his way to Sheikhhati Bazaar. 

In-charge of Sheikhati Police Camp, SI Enamul, pushed him to the ground for not wearing a mask. SI Tariqul Islam hit Manik's body with an hour-long, with ASI Alamgir and other constables at Bazar road and on the floor of police camp in several times. 

Later, the police including assistant Sub-Inspector Alamgir brought him to Narail Sadar thana and handed him to family members over to settle the matter. When the condition of Manik  deteriorated around 9:00 pm, he  was rushed to the Sadar Hospital.

We demand a fair trial in this regard,said Manik’s  mother Latifa. President of Sheikhhati Bazar Committee Monirul Islam Sardar said that six to seven policemen had beaten Manik allegedly over the mask issue. 

The accused in charge of Sheikhhati Police camp Enamul  told that while we see Tarikul  was walking without a mask, questioning him about these matters, he disrespected the police. He was not beating. It has been a little pushy. 

Superintendent of Police Mohammad Jashim Uddin PPM said, I have come to know about the matter initially. Detailed inquiry is being carried out.
