Chittagong Police arrested 19 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists from Chandgaon Shamser Para area of the city on Monday night.
Police said they arrested them on charges of holding a secret meeting for hatching plan for a sabotage.
Among those arrested are Jamaat-e-Islam Chandgaon (North) unit president Hasan Mohammad Yasin, general secretary Rafiq Uddin and assistant secretary Baitul Maal Eskander.
Abu Bakkar Siddique, Additional Deputy Commissioner (North) of the city police, told Bangladesh Post that the arrestees held a secret meeting at a house to plan a sabotage.
Receiving secret information the police arrested them and brought to the police station. The accused are being interrogated. Legal action will be taken against them, ADC Bakkar added.
