Awami League President Sheikh Hasina is going to invite top leaders of party’s Upazila units at her official residence Gonabhaban in the capital Dhaka next week.
According to the multiple sources in the ruling party and Prime Minister Office, the meeting between Sheikh Hasina and her party’s Upazila president and secretary may be held between February 10 and February 12.
Party sources said, district AL presidents and general secretaries and newly elected party parliamentarians and 58 pro- ruling independent parliamentarians will be also invited.
Ruling party backed mayors of the all first class municipal corporations will be also invited in the meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The party chief will give necessary directions for the upcoming Upazila elections and to resolve party conflicts.
Talking to the Bangladesh Post on Monday, AL central organizing secretary BM Mozammel Haque told that district, Upazila and AL backed MPs will be invited to the PM’s residence next week.
About the exact date of the probable meeting , the senior AL leader said, “ The final date of the meeting will be fixed today or tomorrow.”
Responding to another question on the top agenda of the meeting with the party head, Mozammel Haque said, “ We hold all such meetings only to strengthen the party.”
Not only this meeting, we shall also hold such separate meeting in all divisional and district levels in a bid to enhance the party’s unity, he added.
Hasan Jahid Tusher, Deputy Press Secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told this correspondent that the date of the meeting yet to fixed.
Meanwhile, all the Upazila Awami League presidents and general secretaries, district Awami League presidents and general secretaries and party parliamentarians and pro- AL independent parliamentarians of Rajshahi division have been called on February 14. The meeting will be held at the Awami League central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader is expected to be present as the chief guest, multiple sources said.
In this regard, a senior leader of Awami League told that they have already called the leaders of Rajshahi Division to the capital Dhaka. However, the date will be changed if the meeting between PM Sheikh Hasina and all upazila and district leaders fixed on the same date.
AL policymakers believed that party’s internal disputes have been deepen in the 12th parliamentary polls after the party allowed party leaders to be independent candidates.
The ruling party high ups have taken various measures to contain the internal conflicts in the upcoming Upazila polls in various ways.
AL will not allocate party electoral symbol boat in the polls. As a result, huge numbers of the AL leaders have already started campaign as Upazila Chairman.
Party insiders hinted that if party does not take proper measures, the party’s internal disputes may during the UP polls.
