‘PM sincere in protecting interest of workers’


Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very sincere in protecting the interests of the workers. 

He also said that the government will not run any mill with subsidy and will not close any mill. The mills will continue to operate through government and private public partnerships (PPPs). This will further modernize the mills, he added. 

The mayor on Wednesday morning distributed 7 kg of rice and cash among 571 unemployed, helpless, destitute and extremely poor people at home under the 'Humanitarian Assistance Program' announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to prevent coronavirus (Covid-19) in ward 31 of Khulna city. He said this in response to a question from a journalist while distributing food items and money.

He added that the mills will be run by capable workers. The government has decided to pay 100% lump sum of all the dues of the retired workers within the next two months. The debts of the workers will be paid through bank accounts.

Awami League General Secretary MDA Babul Rana, Ward Councilor Md Arif Hossain Mithu, Ward Awami League President Md Ziaul Islam Montu, General Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and other leaders of Awami League and its affiliates were present during the distribution of food items.
