PM’s Principal Secretary inspects Matarbari Power Project

The plant to supply 600MW electricity to nat'l grid in December

The Chief Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, Mo Tafazzal Hossain, said that from December this year, the Matarbari power plant will be able to provide full power to the national grid. He said that electricity is already being supplied to the national grid from this center on a trial basis. He gave this information at a press briefing after inspecting the Matarbari seaport and coal power plant project in Cox's Bazar's Maheshkhali on Thursday afternoon.

He said that the government is implementing various Megha projects in Maheshkhali centered on Matarbari of Maheshkhali. 

Among them Matarbari deep sea port, SPM project Dhalghata economic zone. In the Matarbari Power Project, out of two units of 120 MW, one unit of 600 MW is producing electricity experimentally. From next December, the entire electricity generated by this unit will be supplied to the national grid. Already 60 days of coal stock has been kept for power generation.

In the briefing, he said that the work of Matarbari deep sea port is also going on. From now Chittagong Port Authority will supervise the construction work of Matarbari deep sea port.

Prime Minister's Chief Secretary Mo Tafazzal Hossain reached the jetty of the deep sea port under construction at Matarbari in a boat of the Chittagong Port Authority at around 10:30 am on Thursday.

From there, he went to the port area under construction and exchanged views with the officials related to the sea port and coal power plant project and inquired about the progress of the project.

Apart from this, he visited the Single Point Mooring (SPM) project at Maheshkhali.

He was accompanied by the senior secretary of the Ministry of Shipping. Mostafa Kamal, Senior Secretary of Electricity Department Habibur Rahman Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Tofail Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Muhammad Shaheen Imran, Superin­tendent of Police of Cox's Bazar Md Mahfuzul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Biveshan Kanti Das, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Project stakeholders including Zahid Iqbal.
